BA DEGREE SHOW 2016
Helen Sayer’s interest lies in exploring the capabilities of paint through processes of deconstruction, reconstruction and intervention, using landscape as a subject matter. A combination of traditional and contemporary approaches to painting practice are evident in the outcomes: paint is applied as a fluid medium, but is also prepared as a solid material to paint directly onto. Consequently, the conventions of the canvas support and stretcher frame are challenged, as well as the limits of the paint itself. Interactions, such as squashing or crushing, physically transform the subject matter.
